The Central Kowloon Route Central Tunnel is a pivotal part of Hong Kong's Route 6, designed to provide a high-speed east-west express link to alleviate severe traffic congestion in central Kowloon. Approved in 2016 and construction commencing in 2017, this 2.8-kilometer dual 3-lane tunnel will connect the Yau Ma Tei Interchange in West Kowloon to the Kai Tak Development and Kowloon Bay area. The tunnel is expected to significantly reduce peak hour travel times, cutting the journey between West Kowloon and Kowloon Bay from 30 minutes to just about 5 minutes upon its anticipated completion in 2025.
For this project, Unicrane has supplied 2 sets of universal ring molds (OD 6.83m x 1.5m x 0.33m, 7p/r) for this critical project. These molds play a vital role in the production of the tunnel segments that will form the backbone of this underground expressway. Given the complexity of the project, which involves challenging geology and a densely populated area, these high-quality molds are integral to ensuring the tunnel’s construction meets safety, precision, and durability standards while minimizing disruptions to the surrounding infrastructure.
